A Little Wisdom from Carrie Bradshaw

Since getting my pay/hours cut in this economy, I have some extra time at home, and have been doing marathons of Sex and the City. Serisouly, this show doesn't get old, and I am now finding more things to relate to then when I first started watching the show.
I wanted to share some that I found myself relating to right now(all by Miss Carrie Bradshaw):

"Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that's just fabulous.”

“When you're young, your whole life is about the pursuit of fun. Then, you grow up and learn to be cautious. You could break a bone or a heart. You look before you leap and sometimes you don't leap at all because there's not always someone there to catch you. And in life, there's no safety net. When did it stop being fun and start being scary?”

“Maybe mistakes are what make our fate... without them what would shape our lives? Maybe if we had never veered off course we wouldn't fall in love, have babies, or be who we are. After all, things change, so do cities, people come into your life and they go. But it's comforting to know that the ones you love are always in your heart... and if you're very lucky, a plane ride away”

New Crushes

After finally seeing "He's Just Not That Into You" and "Confessions of a Shopaholic" last week, I am excited to say that I think chick flicks are back in a big way. I also have two new crushes.

Justin Long, Alex in "He's Just Not That Into You": I don't know who I love more, him, or Alex his character.

Hugh Dancy, Luke in "Confessions of a Shopaholic": Who doesn't secretly want a hot boss? And the accent doesn't hurt.

Red Carpet Roundup-The Superbowl of Award Shows

Nicole Kidman in L'ren Scott

Natalie Portman in Rodarte

Freida Pinto in Galliano

Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive

Taraji Henson in Cavalli

I am going to say it..I thought Kate Winslet looked horrible. I am so glad she won, she is a phenomenal actress, but that YSL dress and her hair made me cringe.

Decor Files

Let me start with saying I am a bad blogger. Whenever I see an image I like, I right click and save it quickly, and thus, right now, I probably can't tell you where the majority of these images come sorry! So, disclaimer, if you know the credit info, leave a comment!

That being said, I wanted to clean out and print my design files and free up some space on the work computer. Here are some of my favorites:

I love the curtains and rug in this office

We all know this guesthouse from Domino..I love the Ikea table among the awesome Missoni-esq wallpaper

Bedroom from Domino. I love the rug and the wallpaper. I would never think to contrast those prints like that

I actually applied for a job with this PR agency. I didn't get it, but I did talk to her about her home office that was featured in Feb 07. She was kinda impressed, but obvi not enough.

There isn't anything i DON'T love about this office..the chair, the curtains, the gray. I would move in there in a second..and actually want to pay bills and do my consulting work.

Another beautiful office..

Molly Simm's NY apt that was in In Style's home magazine. This is the apartment that spurred my love for interiors

Isn't this wallpaper sweet?

I love the graphic wall, pink chair, and Pucci Pillow on top

I love how Domino would show teeny tiny spaces that were so full of life

Wanna get away?

Sometimes, you need to just get away from everything; I would give just about anything to be alone, exploring my favorite place in the world - London - right now.

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would you be?

Gossip Girl Here

Going through some with drawl without new episodes, and last night while watching Chuckles self-destruct, I was thinking about GG fashion..specifically Eleanor Waldorf. I am def. on team Blair. I love Blair..especially her style. And her mother's line is the epitome of Blair chic.
For those of you who don't know, all of the clothes designer by Eleanor are by
Lorick New York. The clothes are so sweet, and while researching this post, I was reminded just how much I want a dress.

The photo shoot episode from Season 1

Here are some images from her look books I wanted to share:

<span class=

The green skirt outfit on the right was definitely included in Eleanor's show in season 2

<span class=

Her Fall 09 lookbook

<span class=

How cool is this wallpaper?

<span class=

backstage at her Spring 09 show..I want to be invited to that fun looking party

<span class=
She included her grandma in her Spring lookbook

The dress I NEED. anyone know where I can find it. I will owe you forever. Thanks.

Did any of my New York Blogger Buddies catch her show at the tents?

You Know you love me xoxo(
sorry, couldn't resist the send off!)

Rain, Rain go away

wish I was in bed snoozing like this pup right now

Nothing makes me sadder than thinking back to high school and getting holidays off. I hate not having national holidays off! And to top it off, it is a horribly rainy day in Los Angeles, which means the roads are a mess. LA drivers(myself excluded, of course) freak out in the rain and it is utter madness on the roads!

So, to lift my spirits( and to assist a good friend who was engaged over the weekend due to my fine matchmaking skills) I was looking at wedding dresses. Nothing cheers me up like weddings!

My new obsession has to be polka dot wedding dresses. So playful and girly. I think just perfect for a Hamptons summer wedding. Here are my favorites:

Dress from J.Crew..if I ever find this dress, I'm swooping it up. It is adorable. This is one you can def wear again..I can see myself at a dinner at the Viceroy in Santa Monica during a hot July night

This picture/wedding is all over the blogs. The dress is Carolina Herrera, and divine. I would wear it in a second.

another beauty by J.Crew. Whoever thought to add a bridal line at J.Crew is brilliant.

Blogger Interview: A Cup of Jo

We are so excited for our second blogger interview! Between planning her wedding, writing two successful blogs: A Cup of Jo and Smitten, and her job at Glamour magazine, Joanna took the time to answer our valentine themed questions and we are just tickled pink!

On Smitten, you often ask readers to submit their stories after you tell one of your own. It's been a while since we have had an exciting Valentine's day, we are wondering, what was your most memorable Valentine's Day?

* Funnily enough, my most memorable Valentine's Day was two years ago. I was hopelessly single and a little sad. There was a blizzard in New York and I wondered if I'd ever meet my soul mate. I had no idea that two weeks later (just two weeks!) I would meet Alex, the love of my life, at a party! If you're feeling lonely this Valentine's Day, remember that you never know what is right around the corner.

Since everyone is in relationship mode, do you have any tips for us single gals?

* On Valentine's Day, treat yourself as if *you* were your crush. Buy yourself a giant cookie at lunch, get pretty flowers for your house and make a list of quirky, funny things you love about yourself. (Truly, making those lists can be so inspiring.) Also, when I was single, I found that the thing I missed most was intimacy--like pillow talk and random hugs. So hug your co-workers and friends on Valentine's Day--it feels good and they'll laugh and love it! And at bedtime, call someone to say good night and tell them you love them--even if it's your mom. I found that connecting with the wonderful people in my life helped me feel good when I was feeling extra-single. :)

As most readers of your blog know, you are recently engaged. How are your wedding plans coming along, and do you have any suggestions for soon to be brides?

* Thanks for asking! We're getting married this summer in Manhattan. We're keeping things very simple, so that planning has been going smoothly. One of my favorite parts was choosing the dress--I picked this one from J. Crew and I love it. (Also, you can see our engagement photos here, if you'd like!) For brides-to-be, consider playing your favorite love song while you walk up the aisle. My sister went to a wedding recently and the bride walked up the aisle to a slow version of "Tupelo Honey." It was gorgeous and wonderful.

And now a fun question..What is a quirky fact about you?

I often get a burst of energy right before I fall asleep. I'll start doing "the bicycle" in bed and Alex will say, "You'll be asleep in ten minutes, tops."

Thanks so much Joanna for doing our second interview! If her blogs aren't already on your must reads(though we're sure they are) please hop on over and check them out! You will be hooked! We feel like Joanna is a celebrity in the blog world, and we have been so excited to share this interview with all of you readers! Happy Friday!

Some fun facts about kissing

Megan posted these fun facts about kissing last year, and I thought they would be a fun pre-valentines day treat!

1. Two out of every three couples turn their heads to the right when they kiss.

2. A simple peck uses two muscles; a passionate kiss, on the other hand, uses all 34 muscles in your face. Now that's a rigorous workout!

3. Like fingerprints or snowflakes, no two lip impressions are alike

4. Kissing is good for what ails you. Research shows that the act of smooching improves our skin, helps circulation, prevents tooth decay, and can even relieve headaches.

5. The average person spends 336 hours of his or her life kissing.

6. Ever wonder how an "X" came to represent a kiss? Starting in the Middle Ages, people who could not read used an X as a signature. They would kiss this mark as a sign of sincerity. Eventually, the X came to represent the kiss itself.

7. Talk about a rush! Kissing releases the same neurotransmitters in our brains as parachuting, bungee jumping, and running.

8. The average woman kisses 29 men before she gets married.

9. Men who kiss their partners before leaving for work average higher incomes than those who don't.

10. The longest kiss in movie history was between Jane Wyman and Regis Tommey in the 1941 film, You’re in the Army Now. It lasted 3 minutes and 5 seconds. So if you've beaten that record, it's time to celebrate!

I Absolut(ely) Love this

I saw this commercial during the Grammy's and thought it was great. Who would have thought a vodka company would come up with an ad like this?

You heard it here first :Bantu Wax

On my first day of college, while the football and baseball teams moved my boxes into my dorm and I hit the coffee shop on campus with my Mom. That is where I made my first friend, Yodit. She has the most fascinating background, her father is American and was an ambassador, her mother Ethiopian royalty, and she was born in Germany, educated in Cairo, and somehow ended up in our small little school.

Yodit started a bathing suit line, Bantu. Bantu wants to reinvigorate Africa from the inside out by utilizing an all-African manufacturing process. “It is Bantu’s mission to support and grow the African economy while providing high-quality working standards, opportunities for growth, and a living wage to its workers,” says Yodit. “Hopefully consumers will begin demanding finished products from Africa, a place typically only considered for raw materials.” Because of Bantu’s investment in Africa, it has qualified for the African Growth and Opportunity Act, which allows the company to take advantage of tax breaks from the U.S. government.

Here are some pics from her latest photo shoot:
<span class=

<span class=

Each colorful Bantu swimsuit in this year’s collection is entirely manufactured in Ethiopia, but in the future, Bantu may take its show on the road and produce collections and accessories in other African nations. Bantu’s swimsuit patterns are taken from the centuries-old West African textile industry that originated with the wax cloth in cities lsuch as Dakar, Senegal, Abidjan, and Cote d’Ivoire. The juxtaposition of colors and patterns reflects the weaver’s identity, character, and beliefs.

The suits are available at Barneys New York, and most recently, picked up by Anthropologie

Grammy Performances

I loved the line up of Sunday's Grammys. My favorite performance by far was "Swagger Like Us."I was so excited to see three of my favorite artists (T.I., 'Lil Wayne, & M.I.A) of the last year sharing the stage along with Jay-Z and Kanye.

On a side note, how awesome was it to see Sir Paul McCartney singing along with Neil Diamonds "Sweet Caroline"?

Red Carpet Roundup-My Thoughts on the Grammy's

Carrie Underwood in Zuhair Murad. I love the designers she chooses. She is def my girl crush

Taylor Swift in Collette Dinnigan at Clive Davis' pre-grammy party

Audrina Patridge in Tadashi. Where did this look come from? so classy

Duffy in Alberta Feretti, which was a last min switch

Camille Belle in Marchesa at Music Cares

I do not like to do fashion recaps normally for the music award shows..why? Because everyone is mostly a don't. Paula Abdul, go home. Paris Hilton, put on some pants. When one of the best dressed of the nights is Audrina, you know there are issues. But there were some shining stars( I combined the pre-Grammy parties and the awards, because there were some lovely dresses there and I couldn't find five looks I loved from JUST the show)

ALSO, everyone at Vogue who picked M.I.A. as best dressed should be fired. Yes, I know she is like 75 months preggers, but Catherine Zeta Jones sang at the Acedemy Awards two days before she was due and looked flawless. This is just a mess.
