"Today is a day when all Americans from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace. America has stood down enemies before and we will do so at this time. None of us will ever forget this day, yet we go forward to defend freedom and all that is just in the world."- President Bush in his address to the nation on September 11, 2001
When I was a junior and Sara was a soph, we started the tradition on our campus to do a memorial on September 11th. As you drive into SMC, there is a huge chapel law, and we placed one flag for every life lost on that day. I know I can speak for both of us when I say that it is the thing I am most proud of in my college experience. We made a sign by the flags as students walked by: There are more flags on this lawn then students at SMC. It was a powerful message to reflect on that our entire school community didn't match the size.
So, we hope that today you hug your family a little tighter, and take a moment to remember that day. We always will.
